At NAB 2009 in Las Vegas, Sony Creative Software announced Vegas Pro 9, an update to the company's popular non-linear editing application that now features Direct XDCAM EX browsing and import capabilities as well as full support for Red Camera Company's RED ONE 4K video camera. The application features a customizable interface, and has also undergone a color scheme change from white to a more professional gray interface background.

The upgrade also features some new organic effects, including six new effects plug-ins that enable you to customize effects for both video and still images; support for 4K frame sizes and added support for gigapixel resolution images as well as support for DPX and OpenEXR image formats. Other features include the capability to compress to MXF file format during capture from SDI/HD SDI devices, scalable 4K workflow, and customizable audio and color correction layouts.

SRW-9000 HDCAM SR camcorder
In other Sony news, the company introduced a new 24p camcorder targeted at television, motion picture and commercial production. Called the SRW-9000 HDCAM SR camcorder, the camera offers full 1920 x 1080 HD resolution, using 2/3-inch CCDs, a 14-bit analog to digital converter and digital signal processor to capture up to 1080/60p images. According to the company, the SRW-9000 HDCAM SR camcorder can record at 4:2:2 10-bit at 1080/23.98P, 24P, 25P, 29.97P, and 1080/50i/59.94i. It can also record 4:2:2 1080/50P/59.94P. It is expected to ship in December.

The company also showcased two new members of its Luma series professional LCD displays, the 24-inch LMD-2451W, and the LMD-1530W, a 15-inch model. Both displays are designed with wide format content creation in mind, with the LMD-2451W supporting 1080/60p and 50p 4:2:2 10-bit capability, an imporvoed waveform monitor, and the capability to support multiple color standards, including SMPTE-C, EBU, and ITU-R709. the monitor also supports ChromaTRU color processing, which the company says compensates for LCD color level variations that are the result of divergent chromaticity coordinates, color temperature and gamma curves. The LMD-2451W is priced at $4795.
The 15-inch LMD-1530 is an entry level display for high definition video production. It offers 1280x768 resolution and can output footage from composite, Y/C, component, and HDMI inputs. It is priced at $1295. Both LCD monitors are expected to ship in June 2009.
